Product Description

Product Description

Since the limited Desert Fox campaign against Iraq in December 1998, the Tomcat has been integral to virtually all combat operations involving the US Navy in the Arabian Gulf. Indeed, on every carrier deployment to the Persian Gulf since Desert Fox, the F-14 unit(s) on station has ventured into 'The Sand Box' over southern Iraq and prosecuted targets operating in contravention to United Nations security council resolutions. This book covers the F-14 Operation Iraqi Freedom actions against battlefield targets and integrated air defence sites, command and control centres, regime leadership targets and military installations in Baghdad, Tikrit, Mosul and Kirkuk.

About the Author

Tony Holmes has worked as Osprey's aerospace editor since 1989, having previously served as an author/photographer for this publishing house in Australasia. He established the critically acclaimed and hugely popular Aircraft of the Aces series in 1994. Jim Laurier is a native of New Hampshire. He graduated with honours from the Paiers School of Art, Connecticut, in 1978 and has worked as a freelance illustrator ever since, completing assignments in a wide variety of fields. Jim has a keen interest in military subjects, both aviation and armour, and is a Fellow member of the American Society of Aviation Artists, the New York Society of Illustrators and the American Fighter Aces Association.

4.0 out of 5 stars fair account of northerm war much better on Urabn cas, 28 Dec 2005
intersting insight in to joint operations is to be found in htis book. i was especially pleased to find a detailed acccount of a urban Close air support mission in baghdad involving RAF Tornado GR.4s. the author covers the F-14s involvment in the 'northern war' however the is a degree of repertion from the authors other book F/A-18 Hornets of Iraqi freedom Part 2. and i must require why Osprey continue to ignore the RAF involvemnt in Iraqi Freedom, when will we see a book on this. also there is frequent references in thsi book o Operations over Afghanistan it would be interesting to see a separate volume deal with these activities. i have given the book 4 fours based on the accounts of Desert Fox an no-fly-zone clashes which i have not seen before and found illustrating
