The Ninja were the secret agents and assassins of feudal Japan, and they remain a subject of enduring fascination. Many of the books about them are unreliable and promote the myth of the 'invincible superman', that fiction continues to perpetuate. This title provides an accurate and detailed account of the reality of the Ninja, detailing methods of daily life, training, hiring, combat use and secret operations: also covered are the Ninja's use and knowledge of poisons, medicines and charms.

About the Author

Stephen Turnbull is the world's leading English language authority on medieval Japan and the samurai. He has travelled extensively in the Far East, particularly in Japan and Korea. For Osprey, he has authored many titles including Men-at-Arms 86: 'Samurai Armies 1550-1615', Campaign 69: 'Nagashino 1575', Warrior 29: 'Ashigaru 1467-1649', and New Vanguard 44: 'Siege Weapons of the Far East (2) AD 960-1644'. Wayne Reynolds was born in Leeds, UK, and attended art college in Middlesborough. He has had a life-long passion for illustration, and since 1991 has worked as a professional artist. Wayne has provided illustrations and source material for many gaming companies, creating figures, landscapes and interiors, as well as providing core characterisation. He is perhaps best known though for his work on titles such as '2000AD', 'Slaine', and 'Judge Dredd'. Wayne is also a keen modeller and historical re-enactor.

This is an excellent book with stunning illustrations of ninja operations and equipment. The illustartions and descriptions of ninja gadets and tools is fascinating and the information amount training and techniques help explain some of the myths. Well written and by an authoriative source (Dr Stephen Turnbull) this is a serious attempt to shed some light on the real ninja rather than myth. That said it is not a heavy read and is a great source of info and ideas for roleplaying games and wargamners and finally helps fill the gap in ospreys range of books on the Samurai

AWESOME BOOK! Information about history of ninja is more broad and factual. A lot of good images demontration. It was useful for my fashion study based on Ninja collection.
