Product Description

Product Description

Argentina's continuing claim to sovereignty of the Falkland Islands, against Britain, was still in the hands of the United Nations when in 1982, Argentine troops seized the islands in a lightning raid. This title gives first hand accounts from combat veteran pilots of the battles that transpired, and tells the tale of commanders who relive their death-defying wartime missions. It details a conflit whose global repercussions and after effects can still be felt in the world, focusing on the long-range logistics of the conflict for the RAF, the difficult conditions in the South Atlantic, and the successes and failures of British tactics.

About the Author

Mark Rolfe is an extremely talented profile artist. He has worked on a number of titles in Osprey's Aircraft of the Aces and Combat Aircraft series'. Christopher Chant is a successful writer on modern military matters, and has a substantial number of authorative titles to his credit, Military history, and the history of military aviation in particular have long been his passion. Having been part of the editorial team on Purnell's best-selling 'History of the First World War' and 'History of the Second World War', he became a full-time writer and editor in 1974, working extensively on military and aviation subjects. He is also a regular contributor to specialist journals.

4.0 out of 5 stars Falklands War account in short, 29 Dec 2005
tjhis is an excellent short account of the falkands air war and provides a lot f detail into daily operations. nevertheless i have not been able to giv ethe book 5 stars as there is a lack of first hand pilot accounts while the British side receives far more attention thean that of the enemy

1.0 out of 5 stars not worth the money, 30 Jul 2009
This is clearly an early book about the Falklands air war
Don't go buy this book, its not worth the money
The color pictures are rather bad quality and the color drawings are way to dark og ugly
Far to much space is used on aircraft like the Nimrod and Vulcan, they played such a minute role in the conflict that they are hardly woth mentioning
There are far to little spend on the Harries ( both Seaharrier and GR3)

No details of british losses and the text is filled with errors:
Ex: " shot down by LtCdr Ward from 800 NAS " :-(

Their are manby other volumes on the falklands airwar, buy those instead
