5.0 out of 5 stars A GEM of a cookbook, 8 Jul 2008
By E. J. Carter "yriafeert" (Brussels) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This has earned its place as a favourite and much used and enjoyed cookbook. Buy it as a wedding gift / for a student going off to Uni and buy yourself a copy as a reward for a good turn. It contains useful basic guidance on all main cooking methods (handy reference e.g. for temp and time for a roast) and a wide variety of great recipes which are: easy, delicious, and reliable - and many of which will become firm favourites. Be encouraged to try out new techniques, a few new (but not unpronouncable/ unobtainable) ingredients and bask in the glory. I rely on it both for family lunches/dinners and for impressing guests.

5.0 out of 5 stars Not just for the newcomer...., 22 Mar 2006
By Ally (Mallorca) - See all my reviews
This was an impulse buy and one that I most certainly do not regret. Although this book is marketed to new cooks, it delivers far more than that. I am a qualified chef and was remarkably inspired by the simple yet sophisticated food and fine photography. The recipes, using readily available ingredients, are fabulous and easy to follow with loads of handy hints and extra tips. A must for any food lover.

5.0 out of 5 stars Not only for beginners, 2 Aug 2002
By Jukka Aalto (Helsinki, Finland) - See all my reviews
This review is from: New to Cooking (Hardcover)
This is an excellent addition to my +50 cookbook library. I've tried out about dozen of the recipes and they were all simple and delicious. Although all the well chosen dishes are quite easy to make there are no compromises in the quality.
