Product Description

Review

"An excellent book that I have recommended to all visitors who come to Rwanda and want to know more than just the superficial accounts from the press." --Dr. Annette Lanjouw, Director of the International Gorilla Conservation Programme

"This travelguide explains the complex history and the chronology of events leading up to the 6th April 2004 and the days since, in excellently researched detail, and lends the reader a true sense of understanding of Rwanda. The pages are thorough in their detail without being cluttered with extraneous passages and unnecessary paragraphs. In short, Booth is to be applauded for making such a complex and thorny subject so lucid." --Lee Ridley, Polo's Bastards

"Every now and again you come across a guidebook which goes far above and beyond the humdrum list of exchange rates, visa requirements and one-line descriptions of sights and amenities. This guide is just such a book. It gives the prospective visitor real and detailed insights into the country, its people, history, flora and fauna. Even if you end up never going to Rwanda, you will feel you know the place quite intimately by the time you get to the final page." --Wildside

Whether you want to explore Rwanda's ancient and modern history, watch performances of traditional dance and drumming or climb a volcano, this guide is an essential part of your trip. Visit the three National Parks with their varied wildlife, track chimps in Nyungwe Forest and, of course, visit the world-famous gorillas in the Volcanoes National Park. With 50 extra pages, this guide reflects rapid changes and improvements to the tourist infrastructure of an emerging tourist destination.

5.0 out of 5 stars essential packing, 22 Jul 2008
By R. Rees (Sheffield, UK) - See all my reviews

The only alternative to the Bradt guide is a tiny chapter in Lonely Planet's East Africa guide which doesn't even compare.
The first half of the book goes into the history, (both natural and human) and cultural, travel and other issues that a traveller needs to know. The second half is the guide-book and combines useful information for travellers such as where to eat, sleep and how to get around, with good accuracy. It also has a fantastic feature of articles of interest throughout the book to add colour and detail to every stop.
Prices are now a little out of date, but otherwise great. Get it before hand and read the mine of information it holds.

5.0 out of 5 stars Rwanda an excellent guide for a wonderful Country, 11 Jan 2008
By G. Bruce "Gaynor" (England) - See all my reviews

We have recently visited Rwanda and found the Bradt guide to be excellent. Really informative with some great places to visit.
We even took in some of the bar's recommended in Kigali. I would recomend not only to visit this wonderful Country but ensure you take a copy of this book with you. The information about the history, genocide and the people is all very relevant reading & very informative.
A must for any visitor.

Everything you need to know about National Parks, Towns and Lodging. Very useful were the GPS coordinates for i.e. hotels.
