Product Description

Review

'Glenda Larke writes stories of real consequence, and this is no exception. Powerful, down to earth and filled with the sharpness of the true storyteller, Mirage Makers is entertainment with an edge. Count me as a true fan.' Russell Kirkpatrick, author of the Fire of Heaven trilogy

Jason Nahrung, Brisbane Courier-Mail, Qld. April, 2006.

Larke provided a refreshing approach in her previous Isles of
Glory trilogy, and her new release, Heart of the Mirage, continues to
engage.

4.0 out of 5 stars Rome meets Arabia, 19 Aug 2007
By Gareth Wilson "drosdelnoch2" - See all my reviews
(TOP 500 REVIEWER)    (REAL NAME)
Picking up this tale by Glenda Larke is perhaps best described as Ancient Rome running riot into Arabian Nights. Its full of intrigue, mystery and perhaps best of all subterfuge with the principle character learning to come to terms with their own heritage in a "Nature vs Nurture" battle from the very beginning.

Truly memorable and a tale that has the second installment flagged for an immediate read with the author allowing the reader a glimpse into a world where magic's battle force with neither side coming out on top but you can see the body count is going to be astronomical. With the forthcoming tale taking the protagonist back to the "Rome" of her world its going to be interesting to see how the two worlds collide especially given the characters personal quest.

Highly novel and interesting tale bound together with a historical world-building that makes this tale something that's going to be hard to put down.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lead me to the Mirage, 1 Aug 2007
By Tropical Dragon (Cairns, Australia) - See all my reviews
Glenda Larke has the uncanny ability to create a world that is achingly familiar and yet totally alien.

The main character, Ligea, comes from a culture that reeks of the Roman Empire yet the animals used for transport are unimaginable - I still haven't been able to work out what a shleth looks like!

Glenda has woven a story that sucks you right into the Mirage, a zany place where you go to sleep in an ordinary room and wake to find chamberpots hanging from the ceiling. The Mirage is ever-changing and wonderful and Ligea must find out what is threatening the Mirage and what it will take to preserve the Mirage Makers who live within it.

I am lucky enough to have read the entire series and all I can say is: the journey is well worth every moment.

Glenda Larke rocks!
