Product Description
Synopsis
Sonea knows the other novices in the Magicians' Guild all come from powerful families, but she also knows she can turn to Rothen and Dannyl for help when she needs it. That is, until someone starts spreading malicious rumours about her - and Akkarin, the High Lord, steps in. Prompted by the Guild Ambassador, Lord Dannyl leaves for the Elyne court. His first order from Administrator Lorlen is to resume, in secret, High Lord Akkarin's long-abandoned research into ancient magical knowledge. Not knowing the true reason for his journey, Dannyl is soon facing unexpected dangers. Meanwhile, Sonea has almost forgotten the High Lord's dark secret, but keeping the truth hidden may be a grave mistake.

5.0 out of 5 stars sad to finish it, 29 Jul 2004
By A Customer
This book, along with it's forerunner "The magician's Guild" is a real page turner. It is well written and engaging, giving a real sense that you are there along side the characters, and living the story with them.
I am upset that I finished the book so quickly as the third book in the Trilogy "The High Lord" is not yet out in paperback. I will definiatley pre-order it though!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent - can't wait for the next volume, 4 Sep 2004
By S T Lane (LLANDUDNO, Conwy United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
I thoroughly enjoyed this piece of work. It is well written and builds on the first volume meaningfully. I became throughly engrossed with the characters and their experiences and started to undertake on their journey with them.

The characters are developed thoughtfully and in a believable way. I actually felt sorry for some of them at times and became excited when they started to get an upper hand. The locations within the story are also well scripted and create and deepen the atmosphere, adding strength to the storyline.

I found this volume actually improved upon the first volume (although that one was excellent also). I highly recommend this as a read. It's got all the right ingredients for an excellent, absorbing read. My compliments to the author - I've already ordered the final volume in this first class trilogy. I just wish it would come so I can carry on with the story.

4.0 out of 5 stars AWESOME!, 11 Jul 2006
if you've read the first book then you are going to read this anyway, cos youre hooked already! Like me!
Far better than the MAgicians Guild, it manages to blend Star Wars (Light & Dark) Harry Potter (Magic School) with Pratchett(City Guilds), taking the best of all 3 and adding something else which is pure Canavan! Enthralling & addictive this book is simply a must read.
