'A page-turner of the highest order ... formidable' SFX on GEOMANCER 'Readers of Eddings, Goodkind and Jordan will lap this one up' STARLOG

Product Description

Santhenar is on its knees. War with the forces from beyond the Void shows no sign of ending. And there is worse to come. The Aachim have invaded with a fleet of formidable battle constructs and the price for their withdrawal is half the globe. The future of the world now rests in the hands of just three flawed individuals: Tiaan, whose knowledge holds the key to a power that can yet destroy all foes; Nish who has sworn to bring the renegade geomancer to justice; and Irisis, whose great talents are hidden even from herself. Now Tiaan is leading her people in a last desperate stand against the Lyrinx...but if they are to survive she must master her new powers or be destroyed...

5.0 out of 5 stars Tetrach, 14 Aug 2003
This book is an amazing continuation of 'The Well of Echoes' serires, with the storyline going more in depth than any of Irvines' other work. All I can say about this is book is "WOW" and "When is the next one out?"

5.0 out of 5 stars All the best bits of the last one, without the slow opening., 28 Mar 2008
By Sam Anders (Scotland) - See all my reviews
(TOP 1000 REVIEWER)
I was very pleasantly surprised by Geomancer, or more accurately I was surprised by most of Geomancer. The opening was necessary to set up the world and characters, but it's lack of plot points did make it a little too slow. However, Tetrach suffers no such imparement, launching us back into the story just minutes after the last book left off and continuing to hurtle along at the same break-neck pace as it's predecessor.
All of the characters surviving from the events of last book are back this time round, with our focus still on the same Tiaan-Nish-Irisis rotation as last time (cruelly sustained cliff-hangers still present and correct), but in Tetrach two new main protagonists are added into the narrative: the titular Tetrach (a new character tied into Tiaan's plot strand but very much playing his own part in events) and, somewhat surprisingly, Scutator Xervish Flydd who was basically a villain last time but manages to almost become the main hero of the peice by the end.
This book doesn't just continue the plot from the last one, but also starts to increase the scale of things, giving us more of a veiw of the situation overall with several major battles and battle-aftermaths being dealt with. Irvine also drops several hints about the true motives and backgrounds to the controlling parties on both sides of the war which are interesting but don't tell us all that much, generally these sections feel more like a set-up for the sequel than something with any major relevance to this installment.
Tetrach has some excellent plot twists along the way, all of which are unexpeced and mainly carry with them a massive impact on not just the events but the meaning of the story.
If you enjoyed Geomancer (and it's essential you read that before you read this) then Tetrach will provide you with a solid fantasy thriller that brings with it all the momentum, drama and exhilleration of the previous installment and manages to utterly out-strip it in terms of pacing, involvement and quality.
