The volume spans five continents - from the Appalachians to Mount Cook, from Peak Lenin to Siula Grande. The stories included involve far more than rescue: invariably the rescuers find themselves in their own grim battle for survival. Caught on the mountain, no-one is safe. Stories vary from the archetypal nightmare of Tony Kurtz, seen to frreze to death by his stranded rescuers as he hung off the Eiger, to events that unfolded on the Grand Teton as rescuers escaped being clubbed to death by their reluctant rescuees.
About the Author
Scottish mountaineering legend Hamish MacInnes pioneered mountain rescue techniques and equipment. He is the author of Climb to the Lost World and the International Mountain Rescue Handbook.
