Product Description
Synopsis
The Cuillin, on the Isle of Skye, form the finest single chain of mountains in Britain, rising straight out of the sea to a height of over 3000 feet, and presenting a landscape of light and rapidly changeable weather. This award-winning volume of photographs, taken by British photographer Gordon Stainforth, explores the savage beauty of this unique mountain region, and captures the essence of rock climbing and scrambling in the area.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing pictures of an amazing mountain range, 21 May 2002
By A Customer
The Cuillin is like no other mountain range in the UK and probably the world. It is the place where you will find Alpine-level challenges two hours walk from the sea. It is so beautiful, so challenging and so unique that it takes some talent to really do it justice. Gordon Stainforth certainly manages that. His pictures really do justice to the tremendous scenery, his text, based on a vast experience of the area, highlights the challenges of the climbing. The Gaellic poetry mixed in his text is superb (in its English translation, I can't read Gaellic!). I bought the book after a holiday in the Cuillin when I climbed all the summits of the main ridge, and it will provide me with a precious memento of one of the best holidays of my life. Should be on the coffe table of any keen mountaineer.

5.0 out of 5 stars Superb photography and expert writings, 10 Oct 2001
By A Customer
Gordon is an expert climber and photographer, and his dedication to photographing these rugged mountains shows in this book. It is a superb volume of photographs and writing on the magnificent Cuillin ridge on the Isle of Skye, I struggle to put it down each time I look at it.

For climbers and walkers there are details on routes, including the Cuillin Ridge. For photographers there is a technical section which details film, lens, filter and even date and time of each image. Worth every penny.

5.0 out of 5 stars A stunning photographic collection of the UK's finest hills, 19 Mar 1999
By A Customer
No aficionado of the Cuillin should be without this on his or her shelf. As instant inspiration for all those who live all too distant from Skye, there is nothing finer. The photographic quality is incredible and Stainforth's ability to capture the eerie magic of the Cuillin only reinforces this. Perhaps most useful of all are the final pages, in which Stainforth provides a wonderfully detailed, step-by-step guide to the Great and Greater Traverses of the Black Cuillin Ridge. My completion of the former in a day, put simply, would have been impossible without it.
