Product Description

Review
'A joy to read... filled with the sounds, smells and tastes of France' - Financial Times * 'Pel and his procedurals are some of the best things since Maigret, a credit to crime's common market.'-Observer * 'Impeccable French ambience, unexaggerated flics... Hebden proves again that few understand Gallic cops better than English writers.'- The Times * 'Last year I was resigned to the fact that there would be no more books about Chief Inspector Pel because of the death of his creator, Mark Hebden... I was therefore delighted to find a new book, featuring Pel, by Mark Hebden's daughter... I was a bit concerned in case it didn't reach the standard of the previous books. But I needn't have worried, it was even better.' - F E Pardoe, Birmingham Post

Product Description
The latest in this popular long-running series about a French detective. A decomposing corpse in a locked room, a drowned nun and a knifer in a club are all part of the daily routine for Commissionaire Pel and his team. However, after an armed robbery turns into a tragedy Pel suspects there's worse to come. Infiltrating the gutter groups with an undercover agent, Pel and Lapeyre from Paris try to trace the man behind the terrorist organisation that's using local girls as pawns in a deadly game.

4.0 out of 5 stars The darker side of France, 27 May 2002
By A Customer
I've always liked the Pel series, and I have been very enthusiastic about the evolution of style in which it is written. Pel and the Nickname game drops the country-sides and goes urban. With insecurity, drugs, 'bavures policières', political corruption and organised crime, Pel has gained his fair share of the darker side of France.
