Product Description
Synopsis
Millions of people suffer from migraine headaches - people of all ages, personality types, occupations and income levels. Often dismissed as "just a headache" by the uninformed, migraine can be a debilitating ailment, causing vicious headache, impaired vision, nausea and other symptoms that may last for a day or more. In this guide Valerie South aims to prove that there is hope for migraine sufferers. She demonstrates how to identify and avoid specific migraine triggers; presents a step-by-step guide to the management of migraines; and discusses advice on medical and complementary treatments.

From the Author
Hope and Help Available for Headache
My name is Valerie South, and I am the author of Migraine. I hope you will enjoy this book and that you will find both useful and helpful information as well as true understanding from someone else who knows the pain of a recurrent headache disorder. I have often thought how fortunate I am to be able to work in this field as I no longer feel alone with my migraine - the way so very many others do.

Years ago, I worked as an Emergecy Room nurse. In those days, the most we could offer our patients were sedating non-selective painkillers and anti-nausea medication. Along with a prayer for a short attack, we would send our patients home to ride out their attack - perhaps a little more comfortably - in a dark room. Many of my colleagues felt as hopeless as I did, while others couldn't believe how severe migraine attacks could be. Still, there remained a core group of interested professionals who worked tirelessly in the laboratory, and it is their discoveries that have lead to better and more specific treatments for headache disorders than we've ever had before.

I hope to spread the word that there is help and hope available. It is my wish that you will not give up - you don't have to "learn to live with it" and I encourage you to seek help - from your family, your doctor, your employers - and am glad that Amazon.com is also helping to bring you so many great titles and good resources to start you on your road to better relief. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.
