4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, what more needs to be said, 15 April 2002
By A Customer
This is basically the culmination of Nigel Shepherd's two previous books put together in a paperback.

All I can say is that the way the book is set out is excellent, due to this layout you can easily follow what he is referring too. All too easily this type of instructional book can have you lost after the first few steps.

Not only is it well thought out in terms of the layout, but it is written logically. I am a fairly experienced climber and thought I had a reasonable knowledge of rope techniques but I was pleased by the indepth information that Shepherd gives goes in to, answering some of those what if questions.

The book itself covers all the very basic rope techiques needed for begineers such as belaying etc through to more advanced techniques which means this is book will stay with you forever as the ultimate reference manual and would throughly compliment other climbing manuals.

An excellent book.

The book covers all the basics, progressing up to some complicated rescue procedures.

For the intermediate it's a valiable resource as it presents everything in a step by step manor often complimented with diagrams and the practical applications for techniques it discribes.

Any climber wishing to improve their skills and aspirant SPA and MIA's will find this book usefull.

4.0 out of 5 stars RECOMMENDED
An excellent book overall. Only criticisms are that the pages come apart very easily when trying to practice the roping techniques.

Well presented and very informative.
