Book Description
Bungee-jumping demons, mad Magi, aliens on the quarterdeck, a tricky wizard who leaks to the press - trip the comic fantastic in this dazzling new collection of magic and mayhem from fantasy's funniest, wackiest writers, among them Harlan Ellison, Esther Friesner, Neil Gaiman, Craig Shaw Gardner, Harry Harrison, Tom Holt and Julia Mandala.

Comic fantasy is now a distinct category of fantastic fiction. Most people associate it with Terry Pratchett's Discworld novels, the work of Douglas Adams and a few years ago, the Monty Python team, But in fact comic fantasy has been around for centuries, whether as a vehicle for satire, as in the work of Rabelais, or Swift, or as a wacky world to be savoured for itself. Comic fantasy's great names include Lewis Carroll, Edward Lear, Oscar Wilde, P G Wodehouse, James Thurber and in modern times, a host of writers from Spike Milligan to Neil Gaiman.

This will be the biggest, and best, volume yet published in this fantastic, bubbling, highly creative and above all very funny genre.

Synopsis
A new collection of magic and mayhem from fantasy's funniest, wackiest writers, including Harlan Ellison, Esther Friesner, Neil Gailman, Craig Shaw Gardner, Harry Harrison, Tom Hold and Julia Mandala.

5.0 out of 5 stars A superb collection of stories. This book will make you laugh, 29 Jan 2001
This book is perfect for anyone who is looking to gain a large collection of new favourite fantasy authors. Unlike the previous book, 'The Mammoth book of Comic Fantasy', the editor has grouped together stories of similar contents enabling a flow from story to story. In saying this though, I would recommend the previous title. Although it is not quite as funny as this book, it does have clever stories.

I am an avid reader of comic fantasy and have read many publications. However, even though I recognised many authors in the book, I had only seen two of the stories before. Therefore this is a great book for fantasy nuts, like me, and first time readers alike. Some of the stories made me laugh aloud. My fave story was 'The case of the four and twenty blackbirds' by Neil Gainman, an excellent story cleverly based around nursey rhymes. It is worth the price of the book alone. I would also recommend the stories by Tom Holt, Craig Shaw Gardener, Harlan Ellison and Terry Jones (yes, of Monty Python).

They say laughter is the secret to old age. The reason I liked this book is it made me laugh, and that I believe is the point of comic fantasy.
