Being involved in research and teaching risk management i have read a great many books on the subject over the years. Some have a lot of merit and are of great value. Unfortunately they are often large tomb like books.

I found this book to be a superb intro and overview of the field of risk and its management both in its concise content and raising of areas to consider in managing project risks in or outside projects.

I would strongly recommend this book to parties in academia but feel that its merit is in employees of companies who need to become involved in risk management. It is a pain free quick into which has been long overdue in the field.

This small tour d'horizon explains the value of the emerging discipline of risk management and how it has developed beyond pure financial risk management, extending to behavioural reasons that lead to irrational over-commitment. The author's other title in this series (Lifelong Learning) is written at the same level - a big picture perspective of how and why the subject area has evolved, along with the key concepts. I particularly liked the explanation that distinguished risk management from uncertainty management, and the value of scenario planning.

I did like this cheap and quite informative guide [for its price and length] to risk management, which is aimed at those with business experience already. In some respects it's a refresher, pulling together various parts of corporate activity into a 'risk concept'. The individual sections are written very well i found, packing detail in. Where it falls down is in its structure, and it kinda reminds me of a great essay but a couple of stages away from completion - ie all the sections being individually sense-making, but the overall structure needing some serious tightening up!!
