5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent book on all fronts., 11 Nov 2001
John Winton begins this history in 896, long before the navy was 'Royal', follows it through the next 1100 years and brings it right up to date. The book is beautifully produced and the quality of the many illustrations, which include some cutaway hulls, and photographs is excellent. There is a timeline running down the outer margins which keeps pace with the well written text which covers all aspects of naval life. Descriptions of key battles are well illustrated with maps and diagrams.
