I picked up a copy of this back in around 2002 prior to coming out of semi-retirement from fishing.
Overall view is, it isn't a bad book and it tells you a fair bit, like the main species we fish for and how to go about it fish by fish.......... but the book is an exact reprint of a 1985 original, so it shows in the photography (tackle shown, etc).... things have come on a long way in them 20+ years (lead splitshot being banned for a start).
Try either "The Practical Guide to Coarse Fishing" or "John Bailey's Complete Guide to Freshwater Fishing", both of which are much more up to date in all areas.

As iam new to fishing i wanted to find a book that would help me in all types of course fishing,this one did.It was an interesting read,and i wanted to go out and fish after i had read the book!(maybe because ive got the bug).In brief,It tells you about the different types of tackle, floats,knots,baits,waters.The illustrations in the book are good.Thanks Bill Howes
