Product Description

John Banville, Irish Times
‘Jeff Collins has done an admirable job of explicating this profound thinker.’

Book Description
Martin Heidegger - philosophy’s ‘hidden king’, or leading exponent of a dangerously misguided secular mysticism? Heidegger announced the end of philosophy and of humanism, and was a committed Nazi and vocal supporter of Hitler’s National Socialism. Was Heidegger offering a deeply conservative mythology or a crucial deconstruction of philosophy as we have known it?

Introducing Heidegger provides an accessible introduction to his notoriously abstruse thinking, mapping out its historical contexts and exploring its resonances in ecology, theology, art, architecture, literature and other fields. The book opens up an encounter with a kind of thinking whose outlines might still not yet be clear, and whose forms might still surprise us.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent informal introduction to Heidegger, 16 Dec 1999
By A Customer
This book uses cartoons and an informal text to give a summary of Heidegger's work. I find this a superb approach - highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent introduction to Heidegger!, 19 Oct 2004
By A Customer
Heidegger is often considered one of the most obscure philosopher. The author has done an excellent job in making Heidegger's complex ideas highly accessible. Five stars for doing full justice to the objective of the Introducing series.
