Product Description
Synopsis
In October 1994 British Waterways launched a scheme to revitalise the Forth & Clyde and Union Canals and regenerate the 'corridor' through which they passed. It was called the Millennium Link. After a protracted process of securing the neccessary finance, the ceremony to launch the project was held in March 1999 and over the next two year these great assets were progressively brought back into use. But why did it have to be done? This book answers that question by charting the canals' story from their early eyars, through decline and demise, to ultimate revival. It's quite a tale.

3.0 out of 5 stars scotlands millenium canals, 14 Jul 2007

(REAL NAME)
This excellent history of the Forth Clyde and Union canals is fatally flawed in that it was published one year toosoon. Itdoes not include the development, opening and running of the Falkirk Wheel which was the crowning glory of the canal system. The history of the canals fron 1790nd1820 respectively till their closure in1963 and subsequent reserection is comprehensive. The pictures although in black and white are a very good record .
