Product Description

Product Description

Before the events of Star Wars: A New Hope, as the Death Star is readied for its first mission, a cabal of Grand Moffs and Imperial Officers embark on a dangerous mission to assassinate Emperor Palatine and Darth Vader and seize control of the Empire. When word reaches Vader that a Jedi has made an appearance on a backwater world, the cabal makes its move. Their plans are further complicated by the actions of the bounty hunter Boba Fett. And, of course, they may have underestimated the cunning of their primary target: Emperor Palatine. This is the first of a new line of graphic novels set during the early days of the Rebellion, when the Empire controlled the galaxy.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent pre classic trilogy event, 7 Sep 2003
By James O (Sussex, England) - See all my reviews
The first four issues of Dark Horse's Star Wars Empire comic collected in trade form, a plot within the Imperial ranks is hatched to destroy Emperor Palpatine and Darth Vader, just weeks before the events of A New Hope.
Excellent artwork, and a tight, faithful, yet original, script, with great dialogue for Vader and the Emperor. Engaging plot, but it might be slightly confusing on first read through, especially if done at speed. You'll find wanting to read it again is no hardship, though.
Also printed in the UK Star Wars Comic.

4.0 out of 5 stars Betrayal, 2 Jul 2004
Empire: Betrayal collects the first four issues of Dark Horse's Empire series. Set in the wekks before Star Wars: A New Hope ,it tells the tale of a scheming collection of Imperial Moffs, officers and bounty hunters, who plan to assasinate Vader and the Emperor and take over. This issue does a number of things very well: it connects the classic and prequel trilogies by showing cloned stormtroopers, Coruscant and Darth Vaders flashbacks. These moments are the highlights of the comics, as it shows a new side to Vader. We know he will eventually return to the lightside, but this comic shows that it didnt just happen overnight. Also, the artwork of the issues is of a very high standard, particularly when showing Vader, the Emperor or Imperial starships. However, the story does feel slightly rushed at times, and will require a few readings before you fully understand it. Also, the ending was quite predictable, as you know that the Vader and the Emperor will survive to appear in the films. However, these are minor flaws, and Betrayal is well worth your time. Buy it.
