5.0 out of 5 stars Your travel experience will never be the same again!, 27 Jan 2002
By ja@archetects.net (Warwickshire, UK) - See all my reviews
This is a truly excellent guide to thousands of movie locations throughout the world. If you are fascinated by the places to which cinema can take you, then you will love this book.
Although there are other locations books out there, they generally only focus on a small geographic region. This one is incredibly in depth, especially for UK and US locations, with photos for many of these.
The book covers a range of periods and genres, from classics of the 50s through to special sections on sequels such as Star Wars and Bond. Very few recent films are excluded - I have only tried to look up one film so far and not found it.
For the price and content, I would find it hard to fault this book - but if I must criticize anything, it would only be minor comments on a few films.

Buy this book!
Go out and see these places!
You will find yourself wandering off the beaten track into places which regular tourists would have no interest in!
Your travels will be much richer for it!

4.0 out of 5 stars The world is just a great big...film set, 17 May 2003
Tony Reeves' research is thorough yet concise, having sufficient detail to keep movie tourists happy, without being too nerdy or anecdotal. It's oddly addictive to read; looking up one reference will lead to another, and so on.

Don't worry if the current political situation has put you off foreign travel this year; this book offers plenty of information and locations to choose from, even if you want to stay closer to home. An interesting reference book to keep by your TV.

5.0 out of 5 stars indispensable, 12 Jun 2006
By Kevin Priest "nichiko" (London, Uk) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
There's a few film location guides on the market but I'd have to plump for this one. First off, it's the only one I've found that covers the whole world (so that means films like The Matrix in Sydney and Amelie in Paris as well as all the regular Hollywood stuff). Secondly, despite this, it's also the most detailed, with a wealth of phone nos and websites etc, for places you might want to visit. And it seems like there's photographs for most of the locations covered.

I bought the original Guide a couple of years ago and I'm glad there's finally been an update. I bought it as a film trivia book, but it's become an indispensable travel guide, and so a bit dog-eared.

What I really like are unexpected entries like Napoleon Dynamite or Velvet Goldmine. I don't know if I have the nerve to follow the Motorcycle Diaries around Latin America, but I'm definitely up for the Sideways wine tour!

It feels like a labour of love. This guy's really done his homework and anything less than five stars for effort would seem churlish.
