Product Description

Product Description
Have you ever fancied being in the movies, or on TV? Let's face it, who hasn't! But how do you actually go about becoming an Extra, one of those lucky people who get to mix with the stars, and appear onscreen - whether it be in a battle scene in a blockbuster movie, or walking around Albert Square - and what's more, get paid for the privilege! Unbelievably, there has never been a book which tells you exactly how to get work as a Supporting Artiste - until now. You Can Be a Movie Extra is the ultimate insider's guide (author Rob Martin is a leading casting agent, who's supplied Extras for films such as Gladiator and Harry Potter). It tells you everything you need to know, from getting on an agent's books to what to do on your first day on set, and how to make sure you keep getting regular work, whether it be in films, on TV, or in commercials and music videos!

About the Author
ROB MARTIN is a co-founder and Director of The Casting Collective, one of the UK's leading agencies, which in the last few years has been responsible for supplying Supporting Artistes for most of the big film and TV projects shot in the UK, including both Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone and the forthcoming Chamber of Secrets, Gladiator, Spy Game, The Mummy Returns, Tomb Raiderand Band of Brothers.

5.0 out of 5 stars An essential purchase, 14 Mar 2003
Most people at some stage have probably wondered what it would be like to be in the movies. Well, Rob Martin, a leading expert in his field, tells you exactly ehat it would be like, warts and all. In clear, well structured chapters he takes you through every step needed to become a film extra. Invaluable for the complete beginner but also entertaining to make this a worthy purchase for the experienced veteran. Add to this a variety of anecdotes from extras themselves and every aspect is covered. He doesn't molly coddle the reader, either. It may seem like an ideal job but it can be boring, uncomfortable and an air of lunacy often permeates a day on a set. Martin wisely points this out. Having read the book you will either know everything you need to know to succeed or you'll have decided that your office job isn't so bad after all. If this is something you have considered you must buy this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars You Can Be A Movie Extra - Essential, I reckon., 11 Mar 2003
By A Customer
Before reading Rob Martin's concise yet comprehensive book, I'd mistakenly believed that getting into the world of movies would be a tricky task. However, after spending a few hours pawing through this well-written guide to 'supporting artistes' (don't, under ANY circumstances, call them extras), I felt like I had enough knowledge of this sphere to give it a whirl myself. Well worth the few quid for the amount of know-how it offers, You Can Be... is an essential guide written in Layman's terms.

5.0 out of 5 stars How to get work as an Extra, all you need to know and more, 29 Oct 2002
By John R Perkins (London United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
Rob Martin has done a superb job in covering all the angles of working as a Supporting Artist in this book. It's put together in a straight forward and down to earth way. It covers so many areas of Film making, interesting for any body who's just interested in what goes on Film sets and what's involved in the process.
It covers every thing from what the Art Department does, to issues of Nude scenes, Pay Rates, rules regarding tax, to how to avoid getting riped off(doggy agents)and what to do on set. Loads of relevant information and useful advice. This is all supported by brief stories contributed by supporting Artists them selves.
Recommended to any body who has been in the business for many years. Or to some one who just wants to have a brief go as an extra in-between main jobs. Very Good value for money
