Product Description

Product Description
From the creator of Preacher, an all-new, all-twisted anti-hero! Meet the Pilgrim, a zealous loner in a seared wasteland populated by scavengers and mutants. What compels him to stand against the scum, dispensing savage and brutal justice? What dark secret drove him into the wilderness? And is he a friend...or the worst kind of enemy? The Judge Dredd team of Garth Ennis and Carlos Ezquerra (Judge Dredd: Death Aid, Bloody Mary, Adventures in the Rifle Brigade) reunites to explore a whole new cursed Earth.

About the Author
GARTH ENNIS is the multi award-winning writer of Preacher, Hellblazer, Hitman and Punisher. Much in demand for his hard-edged, wickedly humorous style, he is returning to 2000 AD this year for a special 12-part Dredd epic. CARLOS EZQUERRA is one of the most prolific Dredd artists of all time. He has also worked with Garth Ennis on Preacher: Ancient History.

3.0 out of 5 stars Pilgrim's Regress, 14 Mar 2003
OK, 'Preacher' was a very hard act to follow which makes me wonder why Ennis tried to in the first place. There is , to my mind, a defiinite trail leading from one series to the other. Both mention God a lot, both are rather nasty in places (Pilgrim in most places) and guess what John Wayne used to call the Preacher? You guessed it.

Pilgrim is a bible-toting homicidal maniac with a shocking past roaming a post apocalyptic world like a wheeless Mad Max. He comes across a group of hapless travellers who are being slaughtered by a heavily armed gang led by a piratical figure with two peg legs and two hooks.A nice touch of irony in a parched world.

Ennis's imagination did work a litle here, but not much. He even gives us the cliche of having the story 'narrated' by a young boy, bad spelling and all. Mad Max 2 again, anyone?

Worst of all the script is woefully short on wit, as well as plot. As for the artwork, I was never a fan of Ezquerra so I'll just say its up to his usual standard.

I'm a big enough fan of Ennis's to give the series a second chance and will probably buy volume 2. But I have to stop being angry at Ennis first.
