More of an epilogue than a sequel, 12 Oct 2001
I loved the novel of Shadows of the Empire and it was great to see Guri back. However, Evolution is a much more light-hearted read and inconsequential to the SW saga. The plot seemed a bit implausible. It is set only a short time after ROTJ when the Empire is still a massive threat, and yet in this story our heroes are more concerned with calling a truce between members of a criminal organisation because citizens are being caught in the crossfire. I felt that this story would have fit more comfortably a few years down the timeline once the New Republic had been fully established, or alternatively the author to find another reason to involve the Alliance and Black Sun. However, if you liked the original novel then this will round it off if you are desperate to know what happend to Guri.

An interesting epilogue to 'Shadows of the Empire'., 19 Oct 2004
THE STORY: The Human Replica Droid Guri has all the secrets of Black Sun in her memory, but she no longer desires those memories and seeks a way to have them erased. Meanwhile, a new villainess is attempting to gain control of Black Sun and the heroes of the Rebellion need to prevent a full-scale underworld war.WHAT'S GOOD: This graphic novel is a good follow-up to the 'Shadows Of The Empire' novel, rounding out the stories of the Black Sun vigos, Guri, the bounty hunter Skahtul, the Pike (or Pikkel?) sisters and Dash Rendar. WHAT'S BAD: The actions of Han, Luke, Leia, Lando, Chewie and the Droids are completely incidental and have no major bearing on the plot, seeming to have been added simply because Lucasfilm is scared to release anything devoid of the movie characters. On a related note, Leia really got on my nerves in this book, constantly berating Han simply for being near attractive women (and yet it was her who started to get it on with Xizor in 'Shadows...'!). I would've liked to see a bit more of Dash too (like some kind of explanation as to why he's not dead).

Funny, exciting, answers a few questions., 20 Nov 2000
This I thought, was a well scripted continuation of the events in 'Shadows' and it was good to find out what exactly happened, ie who lived? Who died? and why the Pike sisters were mentioned when they were never used? Since this book was Pre 'MJ' anyway, my only little gripe was that our gang of heroes weren't quite in it enough, but because this book was basically Guri's story anyway, it's not that big a deal. All in all the book has it's moments, plenty of action, an interesting story, with a just enough laughs thrown in for good measure.
