Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

With this series, we get the further adventures of Imperial Guard Kir Kanos, one of the Emperor's personal protectors, who garnered mere seconds of screen time in Return of The Jedi--ample proof of the astounding depth the expanded universe of Star Wars regularly explores. Following the death of Emperor Palpatine, a plot by Kanos' fellow Guard Carnor Jax to become a Dark Lord of the Sith was foiled when he was killed by Kanos. Now, an interim council runs the affairs of the Empire, with each member trying to consolidate their own power base. Kanos views them all as traitors to the Emperor, and vows to destroy them. When the council members become assassination targets, Kanos becomes the prime suspect in a web of intrigue and treachery. Kanos is certainly prominent in Star Wars' rapidly expanding ranks of complex characters. His devout and unwavering loyalty to the Empire is well portrayed, but Kanos is certainly not an Evil character. Like Mara Jade, Kanos must find a new purpose now the Empire is embroiled in a massive power struggle. Paul Gulacy (Batman: Prey) makes the most of the vivid settings and atmosphere, mixing intrigue and action efficiently. If you are an ardent fan of Luke and co., you will not find them anywhere here, as this series makes the bold step of eschewing all the more familiar elements of Star Wars. That said, X-Wings, Tie Fighters, Droids, Stormtroopers and all manner of aliens appear in abundance and if you fancy delving into the outer reaches of the Star Wars universe, this will be more than satisfying. --Danny Graydon --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

Product Description

Based on the characters and worlds created by George Lucas and set some years after the events in Star Wars: Return of the Jedi, Crimson Empire expands on and continues the saga of the evil galactic Empire and the rebels who oppose them. It is a time of turmoil, control of the Empire is up for grabs, and one man, Conor Jax, begins his campaign to become the new Dark Emperor. On the remote planet Phaeda, a wandering Jedi known as Kir Kanos finds himself hunted by Imperial forces. The two, Conor Jax and Kir Kanos, share a deadly bond, and once fought side-by-side as part of Darth Vader's elite Crimson Guard. But now they are sworn enemies, divided by death and betrayal. Only one will survive...

4.0 out of 5 stars Let it be a trilogy, 31 Jan 2001
By hh98a-jh@uv.horshs.dk (Horsens, Denmark) - See all my reviews
After reading the first Crimson Empire, I found a hole new perspective for looking at Star Wars in general. Therefor my expectations for Council of Blood as astronomical. Most of these expectations were met, and in the best way possible. The artwork was of grade A standard and the story was very compelling. But I can't held but wonder, if the authors of the story had wanted to create a new story level for Crimson Empire, for my personal oppinion is that what made the first the best was the flashbacks into the past. This Was not used in the second and that is a shame. To all who read this. Buy both Crimson Empire books, they are worth every dollar. And you hear nothing about all the other "Heroes" of the New Republic. One last thing. Kir Kanos is truely an antihero, but he is the coolest Star Wars character since Grand Admiral Thrawn.

4.0 out of 5 stars An excellent novel true to the Lucas universe., 12 Dec 2000
By A Customer
This novel is the perfect way to start exploring the great Mr Lucas' universe in more detail. Set a number of years after Return of the Jedi, the Empire has fallen apart. Various Warlords and Generals are attempting to take over Palpatines throne, but one man is poised to become the New Emperor. No matter what the cost to the New Republic or the rest of the Galaxy. A great storyline with some lovely artwork. If your a true Star Wars fan, you WILL enjoy this novel.....
