Product Description
Synopsis
Rodney Marsh once infamously dubbed them 'the worst fans in Britain', but 'fickle' is the more familiar label applied to supporters of Tottenham Hotspur. But who are these seemingly forever unhappy fans, the caricatures beloved by the media and the marketing men? Are they a disparate group of people whose only real connection is a shared love for their club? More importantly, what have they got to say for themselves? We Are Tottenham puts Spurs supporters at the centre of the tale of a dramatic season at White Hart Lane, one in which fans' hero Glenn Hoddle was axed after only six games, and the club faced a fight for its reputation. In doing so, the book exposes the myth of the 'average football fan', providing a compelling account of the joy, frustration and absurdity of following a Premiership club. Rather than deliver a mere roll-call of games in a season vital to the club's future, We Are Tottenham uses the events and themes of the 2003-04 campaign to address the issues that matter to many football fans today, from the dominance of money to the passions of a local derby. Here you'll meet: the supporter still pining for the glory-glory years; the young fan desperate to see any

5.0 out of 5 stars A shared history beautifully told, 26 Oct 2004
At times, frequent in the past few years, Tottenham has seemed to forget its identity- playing crappy football, appointing an ex-Arsenal disciple of defensive football as manager etc. This book shows us that throughout such periods, it is the fans that make the club special- along with the clubs history- rather than anything tangible like stylish victories or trophies.
The book talks to Spurs fans young and old, local and international about how and why they started following the club and what it means to them. It is a great read and means that Spurs have a book to rank up there with Fever Pitch as providing an insight into what a club means to its supporters.

3.0 out of 5 stars We are Tottenham, 19 Oct 2004
By A Customer
This book is about fans. It's about their love for Tottenham Hotspur football club, the emotions they feel from the support they give and the hopes and fears they have for the future. It's a story lived by millions every week across the world.

Coming from a broad cross section of society, the supporter's voices make more than interesting reading. They deliver an uncomplicated statement on the passionate devotion of fans that only love for a football team can induce. The fans interviews are frank, pointing out home truths bred from many seasons of terrace discussions and these are paralleled by the unfolding season. Set as a narration, it unfolds as one of the worst in spurs history and the book highlights the glory days that litter spurs past and the outrage that another season is passing with no improvement on the pitch.

Written by Tottenham fans about Tottenham fans, this book is an earnest testimony to the enthusiasm of football fans, and would be a fine representation of any group of football supporters.

Come on you Spurs.

This book is a gem.
