Product Description

Product Description

"The Rise and Rise of Charlton Athletic" tells the tale of a decade many believed Charlton weren't going to see. Having "nicked" a late equaliser and scraped a draw with the official receiver, the "Addicks" spent most of the late 1980's reeling from a string of financial body blows. The club clawed its way back from the edge of the precipice, to a position of safety and prosperity. As dozens of other clubs face the prospect of going out of business, in a small corner of South East London stands a club who act as a blueprint for how to bounce back from defeats off as well as on the pitch.

About the Author

Mick Collins has supported Charlton Athletic for all of his 31 years and worked for the club's press office for three years. A freelance author and journalist, he lives a mile from The Valley with his wife, Cas, their two daughters Honor and Amy and a signed Clive Mendonca shirt.

5.0 out of 5 stars A fantastic read, 2 Dec 2002
By A Customer
Having supported Charlton for almost 40 years, I was never in doubt that a book about the last ten years was going to be a good read, but Mick Collins has really surpassed himself with this.
The last decade has been an historic one at The Valley, and everyone has got their own moment they cherish, which should make writing a book that appeals to everyone very difficult, but he has managed it. Everyone who reads this will find something they identify with, and that makes them smile.
A really fantastic book, which has been beautifully written and researched, and leaves you feeling genuinely uplifted. Collins is funny one moment and serious the next, and really manages to give a feel for what the last decade has been all about. Written by someone who must really love the club, it will appeal to not just those who love it as well, but to anyone who thinks that the game has gone off the rails a bit in recent years. The best football book I have read (even if it is about my club!)

4.0 out of 5 stars Charlton Fans, 3 Jul 2009
Excellent book for all Charlton fans. Well documented by Mick Collins, and I re-lived every moment again, all the highs and lows, good and not so good memories, but Mick told it exactly how it happened as only a Charlton fan could.
