American distrust of government, politicians and authority in general can be traced back to the time of the official investigation into the assassination of President John F. Kennedy, and the suspicion fostered by the publication of the Warren report, the government version of what happened to America's most infamous president. There has been little published on the subject in the last ten years, a period which has seen much activity and distinct progress in our understanding of what exactly happened before and after Kennedy was killed and how it was so successfully covered up. "Say Goodbye to America" contextualizes the debate and comes to a shocking conclusion. According to new information gathered and assessed by Matthew Smith, JFK was murdered on orders emanating from the "alternative" government: the Establishment which eased the concerns of "big business" and which Kennedy was in the process of divesting of power and relegating to a lower priority in favour of promoting a government which put the people and their needs first. Kennedy's new priorities won him few friends in government and "Say Goodbye to America" emphasizes the fact that most of his policies were dismantled in the 18 months immediately following his death. Indeed, his policy to withdraw from the early situation in Vietnam was changed within hours. A Washington meeting attended by the parties concerned in government, together with new President Lyndon B. Johnson, met just two days after the murder. They reversed his policy forthwith and the war in Vietnam became a political objective - all of which took place before Kennedy was even buried. President Lyndon B. Johnson ordered an investigation into JFK's murder. However, it was biased, inaccurate, misleading and an affront to the American people. The assassination and sham inquiry which followed highlighted for many Americans the end of a golden era and they were forced to say goodbye to the country they knew. This book starts out with one simple fact... Lee Harvey Oswald did NOT kill John F. Kennedy. But anyone can say that. The difference here is, Matthew Smith goes to great depths to prove that Oswald did not act as the lone gunman. A very well researched book that takes you through a journey of political infighting, CIA plans to make Oswald look like a communist and a government report (The Warren Commission) full of lies and missing massive amount of evidence... After reading this book, my thoughts and beliefs that Oswald was not the gunman were confirmed. But the big question still remains unanswered, "Who did kill President Kennedy"? If anyone is interested, I still believe (and it will take much more that any book could ever contain to change my mind) the C.I.A. were totally responsible for the assignation of Kennedy. Oh, and one more question. Did Lyndon B. Johnson know the day before that Kennedy was going to be assinated. Read the book, you may be surprised.

This is the follow-up to Matthew Smith's 'JFK: The Second Plot' and it expands on Smith's own theories surrounding the assassination. Smith must be congratulated on writing another succinct and readable account of a subject that could easily get bogged down in claims and counter-claims. Smith brings a couple of new snippets of information to the assassination table and draws together many previously-known facts into a plausible scenario. Unfortunately, the book does not contain any references, so it is impossible to check the provenance of any of the claims.

Having read loads of books on this subject...this book is diffrent in that it tries to tie together most known facts..and actualy come up with a reason for the eventual outcome..Oswald is not only shown to be innocent but the book explains very well howhe was made to look guilty...his movements after the shooting of JFK which to many people made oswald look guilty are actually explained in such a way that explains his innocence.The author claims that oswald was to be spirited away to Cuba on the pre text that he thought he had a new mission, a plane was waiting for him at Red bird airfield...he was to meet Officer Tippit who was to take him there. All this makes sense up to this point but heres where it falls down...like many people who have studied this subject ive always felt that if the murder of policeman Tippit could be explained then the whole subject of Oswald would make more sense (it was the murder of Tippit which set up Oswalds arrest ) if Tippit was supposed to take Oswald to the airfield (which is central to the authors whole theory ) then why didnt this happen..ie..who killed him and why ? This seems to contradict his whole theory and slightly spoils an otherwise excellent book...its not the first and wont be the last, book on this subject that falls down on one key point. Ive searched hard for a book that covers the Tippit murder in detail, but considering that its so central to the whole subject..they all seem to gloss over it.
