3.0 out of 5 stars Better with a ball than a pen, 7 Jan 2001
By A Customer
The book offers no surprising news but its a nice tale about a nice guy. Shame that Hull bigots can't leave him alone even now though I dare say that Garry is happy that they're spending their fishing money on his book.

1.0 out of 5 stars A COMIC MASTERPIECE - But SURELY FICTION, 6 Jul 2001
By A Customer
This is hilarious. there are some very long words in this book (up to three syllables) so the co author has been very active. He is bigger than all other players, coaches and experts. No one could intimidate him or better him.Except an academic at Huddersfield. The pen really is mightier than the sword!! Funnily enough all Garry's comtemporary autobiographers see him very differently! As a case study in self justification (someone will have to explain that phrase for Schoey)and denial it is wonderful. If you want a good rugby read try Mal Reilly or John Bentley's books

1.0 out of 5 stars Under-Achiever !, 26 Dec 2000
By A Customer
As a Hull fan, I am pleased that this book confirmed that my hero worship is well placed. We are lucky indeed that Gary turned away from a a promising academic career and treated us to his hard tackling style of rugby. I was surprised to find that he had actually been a contestant on Mastermind too ! His loyalty to Hull shines through as an example to all young sportsmen - he never moved clubs for money or in the vain hope of winning medals. Every medal he won was richly deserved - the only minor gripe I have is that there isn't an appendix of all that he won.
