The early days "Team of All the Talents" is featured, along with great goal-scorers and goal-makers like Johnny Campbell and Jimmy Gillespie and legendary goalkeepers such as Ned Doig. Other standout figures are portrayed, from Len Shackleton and Brian Clough to Peter Reid and Niall Quinn. League successes came easily and early to Sunderland. "Into The Light" explores the club's devotion to winning trophies with style, but also exmamines the heartbreaks and disappointments in a see-saw ride through 120 years of English football.

Roger Hutchinson is the author of the The Toon, a history of Newcastle United, and It Is Now! about England's 1966 World Cup win.
