5.0 out of 5 stars What a story !!!, 27 Feb 2001
By Mr. Charles A. Samson "samsonca" (Scotland) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I was expecting this book to be typical of other historic texts, with sound facts but many questions left unanswered. How wrong I was !!

It is a chronological story of Forfar from it's early days in recorded history through to recent times. It is told like a story, with references throughout that make interesting sidebars. The author provides details about Forfar's rise to be among the wealthiest of towns, to it's downfall at the hands of Dundee, and the great fire which allowed it to rise again to become a thriving and wealthy market town.

Also included are many references to the historical digs that have taken place around Forfar, and details of the finds and where they can be seen today.

The maps are excellent. I found the street where my great great grandfather lived, clearly marked on the 1822 map.

For anyone from Forfar, this is a must buy item.
