Product Description

Product Description

Whether you're travelling to Bordeaux of just looking for help in selecting the region's finest wines, "Wines of Bordeaux" is a comprehensive guide to this area's wines and chateaux. The book is divided into the appellations of Bordeaux, and for each appellation chateaux are listed in consice A-Z format, with more than 1000 chateaux listed in total. This up-dated edition includes star ratings offering quality recommendations, symbols to show which wines are drinking well now and which will keep, and a "v" for wines offering particularly good value for money. Up-to-the-minute vintage reports, comprehensive information on the region's complex classification system and a section on how the region's wines are made complete this guide.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best Quick Reference Guide to Bordeaux Wines, 25 Mar 2003
By A Customer
Working in the wine business, I have a copy of this book on my desk and feel lost without it! It is easy-to-use and jam-packed with up-to-date, reliable information on all the Châteaux in the region. The maps and layout are clear and concise, and I particularly appreciate the star ratings and vintage notes for making informed decisions on what wines to buy, keep or drink! The book also highlights some of the lesser-known Châteaux that provide great value for money and comments on the changes in ownership bringing improvements to many properties. A fascinating read and a great reference guide.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice & compact, 30 Jun 2004
Nice & compact reference; I appreciate that not all 'chateaus' are evaluated positive as some guides almost seem to do; but put them sometimes in a negative perspective. I missed price indications like the Hachette guide does; and it would be nice to see some more illustrations like more detailed little maps of villages.
Still it is worth to have a second opinion next to Palmer, Hachette ... Don't trust a single reference.

4.0 out of 5 stars A classic with great background info, 6 Oct 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Wines of Bordeaux (Hardcover)
I have the honour of having read all the various editions of this great classic. Some may seem slightly out of date compared with Duijker's atlas or even Parker, but for history and detail in depth it is a great book. Has a place in every winelovers library.
