1.0 out of 5 stars Not for the 30 something, 4 Jan 2005
By A Customer
As a 30 some thing woman trying for a first child I bought this book to help. If you are in your 20's then you'll be a star pupil - if you in your 30's and 40's then it's all doom and gloom. I didn't find the tone supportive, more "you should have done it earlier" - which is not what I wanted to pay for.
On the whole I found it pessimistic and depressing (yes we know fertility lessens as we get older - perhaps that's why we bought the book in the first place?). I've found much better books that deal with the issues of fertility and infertility much more effectively and sensitively.

4.0 out of 5 stars An easy read, common sense book, 13 Aug 2002
By A Customer
Anne Charlish has written a book that reassures you that your frustrations and anguish in your inability to conceive are not unique. I would encourage anyone who is currently unable to conceive and hasn't yet been to seek professional help to read this book. From start to finish it is entirely positive and allows the reader to grasp onto the fingers of hope. I read this book very quickly and enjoyed the author's easy to read writing style. Unlike many other books on infertility, the author concentrates on an holistic approach to conceiving whilst not dismissing the impact of medical intervention. I have read many articles on infertility but found Charlish's advice on personal well being both reassuring and refreshing. This gem of a book is for people who like me are suffering from 'delayed conception'.

2.0 out of 5 stars don't bother, 2 Oct 2003

(REAL NAME)
Getting Pregnant: How to Improve Your Chances of a Healthy Conception resembles a brochure much more than a book. It is a brief overview and doesn't delve into any topic at all. I think most women are already familiar with the information presented simply by common sense. The writing is fine, easily understood, and so on. The price isn't justified by the content which is, simply put, lacking.
