2.0 out of 5 stars Not her best effort!, 28 April 2008
By Rena Ruadh (Edinburgh) - See all my reviews

Now I am one of Sharon Sala's greatest fans and buy her books without even knowing what they are about. There has always been something special about her books, her heroes are incredibly warm, caring men.

But this latest one, in my opinion, is not up to her usual standards.

Now the hero is a typical Sala hero, he is caring, he is honourable. I quite like the way Sala brings bits of the paranormal in some of her books. So here we have a hero who has the gift of healing. That is fine. But then she goes completely overboard with his gifts. He talks to animals and understands them. They communicate with him throughout the book and warn him before the final showdown with the baddie; they tell him where to go. I don't like the way these scenes are written, it just seems a bit too silly, too far off, too unbelievable. As if that was not enough, he has an animal-like sense of smell and tracks Lucia's stalker through the village by sniffing him out. Sorry - no! I really hope that Ms Sala will go back to her old form in the next book and that this one was a bit of a glitch.

5.0 out of 5 stars Up there with Nora Roberts!, 23 May 2008
By helasgirl "kahelana" (lancashire england) - See all my reviews
I absolutely LOVED this book! It's very unusual for me to find an author I like as much as Nora Roberts but Ms Sala may just be one. The abilities of the hero were portrayed very realistically and did not make them sound like there were no drawbacks to having them. The suspense/drama; the story of the hero & heroine and the way it is concluded was excellent. I can see how some people who are less inclined to believe in 'powers' may have a problem with the book but as a pagan I don't have that problem. If in any doubts....buy it!

3.0 out of 5 stars Somewhat off the boil, 18 May 2008
By Penny Harvey "penhar" (England) - See all my reviews
(TOP 1000 REVIEWER)    (REAL NAME)
Firstly I have to say I usually love Sharon Sala books, thoroughly enjoy the addition of some paranormal and have no problem whatsoever in suspending reality - as a rule! Unfortunately this wonderful 'borne unto wolves' hero with his extraordinary ability to communicate with animals, read into the souls of humans etc etc etc was just a touch too much for me.

Please, please, please if this is the first of her books you have read do not be put off. I have given 3 stars because, despite finding the content over the top, the book flowed and the intentions were good. Hopefully the next one will be more of the Sharon Sala we are used to.
