5.0 out of 5 stars An essential guide, 12 Mar 2001
By A Customer
There are very few travel guides to Slovenia and the Lonely Planet one is by far the most comprehensive. I found it absolutely invaluable for transport information, cheap accommodation and basic Slovene words.

There is detailed information on eating out and seeing the sights in all the major towns, and also plenty of info for people venturing out into the spectacular countryside, such as the Triglav National Park. If you are thinking of walking/hiking in the Park then I suggest you buy a book called 'Walking in the Julian Alps' published by Ciccerone, as the LP is a bit sketchy in this area.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent guide to a great country, 25 Sep 2001
I have been raving about Slovenia to all my friends and colleagues since I came back about 3 weeks ago. If you are thinking of going, then the Lonely planet Guide to Slovenia is an excellent place to start.

I have found that guidebooks for other countries I have visited to be sometimes brief, or lacking full details. This guide, on the other hand, gives the reader a comprehensive introduction to the country, its history, culture and people, as well as describing the various attractions and locations with great accuracy.

I would recommend reading this book in the run up to your holiday, as well as during your holiday. Slovenia is a unique place that repays a little advance research handsomely.

5.0 out of 5 stars A bible for my first holiday in Slovenia., 4 April 2003
By Robin Setty (London United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I spent a lot of money on my holiday to Slovenia (a two centre break with my family - one week in a farmhouse near Bled, the second by the coat in Portoroz). However, it's the ten pounds or so I spent on this book that gave me the most benefits. It helped me to find hidden gems that I'd otherwise have missed. Brilliant.

In fact, after a few days I managed to lose the book. (Some swine picked it up in on a cable car near Lake Bohinj!). I didn't hesitate to phone up Lonely planet and find out where I could get a copy locally. The next day I drove to the capital Ljubljana to buy it once more and consequently rescue my holiday!
