2.0 out of 5 stars Lonely Planet Spins out of Orbit!, 8 Jul 2004
By Andy M (Devon, UK) - See all my reviews
There was a time when Lonely Planet was written by people who had actually been to all the places in their books, and could talk from first hand experience of the locations. However, this is clearly not the case with this latest edition. After waiting eagerly for the latest edition to be published in mid-May before my camping trip in June 2004, it was with some astonishment to see one of the authors' main travelling credentials was attending the "runtur", the weekly pub-crawl in Reykjavik! That aside, the architectural walking tour of Reykjavik is a disappointment as it takes one through all the most dismal streets, whilst information on locations outside of the capital is sparce and quite vague; indeed in some places it is very inaccurate and in a couple of instances, totally wrong, giving the impression that the authors have probably never ventured further than Reykjavik and not experienced what they are writing about. The overall effect of this edition is that the authors have gone through a pile of slightly out of date tourist information leaflets and written a few lines on the key places, but do not appear to be keeping alive the spirit of other editions of Lonely Planet and actually writing from first hand experience. I have used Lonely Planet for many years and many countries, but this is certainly not up to the usual high standard and quite a disappointment.

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Brilliant, 2 Sep 2007
By J. Wong "Keen Aussie Traveller" (London, UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
My husband and I spent 4 days driving the south of Iceland in August 2007 and this book was great. The maps were spot on and the recommendations were spot on. We particularly loved the lobster soup at the Saegreifinn restuarant in Reykjavik and tried the whale meat kebab. Using this guide and the recommendations in it, we managed to go dog sledding, snow mobiling and whale watching. The only thing we missed was seeing Puffins, however they apparently left 2 weeks before we arrived, so we can't put that blame on the guide. Definitely the best guide out there for Iceland, highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars superquick book to Germany, 15 Jul 2009
A Kid's Review
I ordered the Lonely Planet Iceland book only a week before I went to Iceland and didn't think it would arrive in time. It arrived three days after I ordered it to my German address. I was most impressed. I also was able to find the book quickly and easily on the Amazon site. Because I have ordered before it was very easy to pay and order. I enjoy using Amazon.
