4.0 out of 5 stars Lonely Planet Mediterranean Europe, 9 April 2003
By Jack Nichols (Cambridge United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
A comprehensive guide yet again from Lonely Planet which includes all the essential information for a holiday in Mediterranean Europe. Sadly it doesn't cover Bosnia Herzegovina (despite the map on the back cover suggesting it does) but all in all the information is as much as you could hope for - accommodation, and the basic attractions in all the countries, as well as suggested itineraries.

This book only sets out to provide a basis for those travelling around the region, although it provides sufficient detail for those spending a while in any of the countries covered. It is a book to be supplemented if you are spending a long time in any of the countries, although once in country it's easy enough to pick up the necessary information from tourist centres.

If you're either planning a grand Mediterranean tour, travelling light for a while or just country hopping, this is the book for you.

4.0 out of 5 stars A valuable guide for travelling in Mediterraniain Europe!, 15 Dec 2001
By A Customer
This guide is a valuable resource for anyone wishing to travel in Mediterrranian Europe, offering vital informatiom on all the coutries in the region. This book is aimed at people particularly wishing to visit several countries in the region, offering essential advice on how to travel between each country.

The book is broken down into sections for each country, with each section giving essential facts on that country, such as the countries culture, political situation, communications, money, religion and how to behave. The book then gives detailed information on all the key tourist areas and areas of interest in the country. It lists places to stay, eat and visit in each area and proves a great asset when trying to find accomodation.

If anyone is wishing to spend extended time in ome or two of these countries then they may find this guide slightly limiting. The useful vocabularly section only contains a limited, though useful, number of phrases. Also smaller areas off the beaten track often receive only minimal coverage, especially in terms of accomodation suggested in these areas. Yet these areas are areas often visited by many tourist spending more than a xouple of weeks in the country.

Overall this book is very useful for anyone travelling in the region, particularly those undertaking a backpacking holiday and I would definately recommend you pack it before you leave!

1.0 out of 5 stars Very bad indeed, dont buy, 22 Sep 2009
By D. D. Modhvadia "Dilmx" (London) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I used this book for my trip around the med a few years back, unfortunately it made no mention of the racist plice that exist in the south of Italy. Thio book is ONLY for people of Caucasian origin as when I wrote to Lonely Planet they said they will makde mention of this in their newer editions. However when I read their latest copyt they have written that they have received reports that the police in the south around Brindisi are firm but are "attempting to stop illegal immigrants"- they are in fact mitigating unwarranted racism.
