4.0 out of 5 stars A comprehensive guide to the walks of France, 5 Sep 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Walking in France (Paperback)
This book appears to be carefully written. It contains a lot of general information about France and good advice for inexperienced walkers. Like every Lonely Planet Guide it fully covers the extras, such as accommodation, public transport and where the best (and cheapest) supermarkets can be found, although the location of laundrettes would also be helpful! It does not appear to have suffered by attempting to cover the whole of France. Although inevitably only a limited number of walks per region could be included, in the areas we visited they were good choices. The book clearly stated that the timings for each walk were just walking time and did not allow time for lunch, photographic or other stops. However, we found them slightly on the optimistic side, unless you are quite fit and used to walking. Overall an extremely useful book full of all the small details that you expect from a book in the Lonely Planet series.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, 24 Jun 2002

This review is from: Walking in France (Paperback)
Walking in France is a joy. The French network of sentiers and randonees are very impressive. Of course, if the French are going to go walking, they will want good instructions and it is certainly difficult to get lost in the main walking areas, although it is very easy to go a whole day without meeting another soul!

I tried several walks in the Auvergne and one in the Burgandy region. Great walks all. Lots of useful information.

Walking is a great way to discover France and this guide should be the inspiration you will need!
