Contrary to legend and Hollywood movies, there was a lot more to Las Vegas than a dumpy gambling house, some tumbleweeds and cacti the day mobster Benjamin Siegel drove into the Mojave Desert and decided to build a glamorous, tropical-themed casino under the searing sun. Read the first page

5.0 out of 5 stars A must have guide to Vegas, 27 Nov 2000
By A Customer
A superb informative guide to Las Vegas and all it has to offer. As well as giving excellent advice on where to eat, stay, drink and shop, this book also gives excellent reviews of all the hotels along the strip giving you all the details of what they have to offer. This book also takes you outside the realms of the strip and gives an insight to rustic Vegas, with details of places of interest such as the Hoover Dam, Red Rock Canyon and The Grand Canyon itself. It also goes into detail about neighbouring towns and ranches, giving information on Horse riding, white water rafting, helicopter rides and plane trips. This book also gives advice on how to get about in the least stressfull way, and also information on how to play the various tables and machines within the casinos. Make this book an essential travel item and you are sure to have a fun packed Las Vegas holiday.

4.0 out of 5 stars Worthwhile and worth the money, 30 May 2003
A decent guide that's well worth the money, It's small enough to stick in your bag and has enough information to keep you going.

If you are going to Vegas for the first time, it is vital you buy a guide book and you could do a lot worse than this one.

Lonely Planet deliver once again with this concise yet comprehensive guide to Las Vegas. There is little point buying any other guide, unless you want oodles of pretty pictures, LP tells you everything you need to know, exactly how it is.
