5.0 out of 5 stars Essential reading, 7 Feb 2004
Planning a trip to Argentina? This is the book for you. I wouldn't be without Lonely Planet Guides for their honest and reliable advice and this title certainly provided me with all I needed to know when mapping out my route.
The helpful background information on history, geography, politics and the arts help to set the scene and ensure that, as a traveller, you are able to develop an understanding of the country rather than just darting from one sight to the next. Divided into sections according to the geography of the country, this guide book is easy to use and helpfully breaks down accomodation choices into budget, mid range and top end. Whilst the sections are not exhaustive, it prepares the traveller but does not pretend to be prescriptive.
Interesting boxed sections focus on key features of Argentinian life, such as tango, and there are helpful sections on South American Spanish and native wildlife.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good, but dating, 26 Feb 2005
By Simon C (London) - See all my reviews
I found this book useful, but the more recent (2004) "South America on a Shoestring" had more up to date information about hostels, bars etc while retaining most of the necessary details about these countries.
