1.0 out of 5 stars How has this been allowed????, 17 Aug 2009
I am horrified that Adam Campan can even have Jane Austen's name on the cover of this book, for if she were alive I am quite sure she would distance herself by all means possible from such a character. This book is absolutely against everything Jane Austen ever wrote, it is not what she intended from her work and that someone can come along a few hundred years after her death and make a mockery of her excellent skill and talent is shameful and I despise Amazon for having recommended this to me as a lover of Jane Austen's original intelligent and pure works.

If Adam Campan needs Jane Austen's original book to produce his own sordid novel, then I have very little hope for him. I think he is brave, abusing what is good and innocent, but did he really need to use 'Emma' to achieve his aim?? Could he not think of his own plot and write his own characters instead of borrowing hers?

1.0 out of 5 stars Jane Austen???, 15 Aug 2009
By N. Favez "girlie" (UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I've just received a suggestion to buy this book because I like Jane Austen books. I must have missed the announcement of her resurrection because she most certainly never wrote this and I don't know how amazon or the real author (Adam Campan's name being barely readable underneath the huge Jane Austen printed on the front) can get away with it... Would someone care to explain?

Here's the list of her work:
* Sense and Sensibility (1811)
* Pride and Prejudice (1813)
* Mansfield Park (1814)
* Emma (1815)
* Northanger Abbey (1817) (posthumous)
* Persuasion (1817) (posthumous)

And the two unfinished novels:
* The Watsons (1804)
* Sanditon (1817)

On the American amazon, someone explains that it's Emma, rewritten as a gay novel. Well I for one won't be wasting my money on someone who can't sell their work as their own.

1.0 out of 5 stars This is NOT a book by Jane Austen as Amazon has advertised!!, 23 Aug 2009
I too have just responded to an email recommendation of this book by Amazon, claiming that "James Fairfax" by Jane Austen is now available!
Like the previous reviewers, I was shocked to hear that Jane Austen had such a novel as I was sure that I have already read all her novels, and was certain that she never wrote such a book. Yet I decided to have a look any way in case someone somewhere had found some long-lost manuscript of a novel she had written (buried among cobwebs in an attic belonging to one of Austen's relatives), unknown to the public until now, and whose retreaval warranted Amazon to send me this 'recommendation' notice.

This book is NOT by Jane Austen (it's a book by Adam Campan, offering a 're-take' on some of Austen's work, using Austen's characters).

1.0 out of 5 stars False pretences
I wish I could give no stars. This book is NOT by Jane Austen. Adam Campan, Norilana Books and Amazon are all guilty of false advertising. Read more
