1.0 out of 5 stars Drew Peterson Exposed, 2 Oct 2008

"Drew Peterson Exposed" is not the product of investigative journalism. The promotion and even the book jacket would lead you to believe that this is the product of objective investigation and research. The author claims to have interviewed "Peterson and his family, friends, ex-wives, fellow cops, and neighbors". Yet the book includes interviews only with Peterson, his lawyer, his publicist and the man who administered a polygraph to Peterson.
It's pretty well known that Peterson and his attorney were shopping last spring for an author who would write a book from his point of view and it appears that Armstrong is the man who agreed to do it. The book relies heavily on Drew Peterson's own dictation. When Drew isn't gloating and giggling over his past as a bully and cheater, he's claiming that his wives beat him and that the press is mean to him.
The bias is obvious when you see that this "investigative" work omits dead wife Kathleen's plea for help in a letter to the State's Attorney in which she told of Drew breaking in to her home and threatening her life, and no photo of Kathleen with a black eye, although the many photos do include one of Drew in drag.
His wives are depicted as unstable and their families as criminals and deviants. Unfortunately none of these people were interviewed and given a chance to answer the assertions made by Peterson. Searchers and those who have helped the Illinois State Police are given a similarly disparaging treatment.
There is virtually no new evidence presented in the book. Peterson did take a polygraph in which he showed 'deceptiveness' on three key questions and the results are given in the book, but you don't need to read the book to find out about that. It's all over the news.
Lastly, the book is poorly jumbled together and not sufficiently proofread. Its many bulleted lists and call outs make it read more like copy for an ad brochure. Sometimes the bullets seem unrelated and nonsensical. When the voice does switch to a narrative it gets bogged down in purple prose. Is it ever the right time to use the phrase, "...covered in the man's spent life force."?
Does it make a difference that the author, Derek Armstrong, also owns and runs Kunati Books, which published the book? To me it means the author has no credibility.
