This is the collected version of the first two War Within 6-part mini series (making the total 12 parts). Only three parts were published of the third series before financial problems hit and it was discontinued.

It tells the story of the beginning of the civil war on Cybertron, the ascention of Optimus Prime, and provides the background for some of the Titanium Transformers figures (Grimlock, etc). It is also a stand-alone story arc, and so you dont need to have any background or have read any of the other multitude of titles for context.

As an introduction, this is an excellent book. The first half is a better story line than the second, but both are excellently drawn and written, and fairly well paced. The story line is a little weak overall, but not to the extent of simply being a series of fight sequences strung together.

If you are just getting into Transformers, or wanted to relive your childhood, this provides an excellent background course. It is also littered with line-drawing designs of the characters, somoe of which never got figures, which is fascinating.

Be warned, this will make you want to pick up another book... and maybe a figure or two...

Was so glad to see this comic series had been reprinted since Dreamwave went out of business. As with most Transformers comics, its a joy to read.
But a warning to those collecting this copy to go with the rest, it is smaller than most by 1" approx.
