Product Description

Synopsis

A bizarre connection between a werewolf and a woman reveals the truth behind a pack's discarded magic lore. Private Investigator CJ Duncan can track a scent better than a bloodhound. Lately, unsettling visions of a wolf prevent her from doing her job. She sets out for Seattle to find her unknown birth father, but her quest leads her instead to a mysterious man who claims to be a werewolf. Werewolf Trey Nolan has a secret weakness-one which leaves him powerless to protect his pack from a danger threatening to destroy their last shred of humanity. When he discovers a way to reclaim his full powers, he must act-even if it means betraying the woman he loves. Caught up in Trey's struggle to save his pack, CJ discovers that her special powers come at a much greater cost than she ever imagined. Warning this title contains explicit sex and graphic language.

5.0 out of 5 stars Something special from a talented new author, 29 Oct 2007

(TOP 100 REVIEWER)
Private Investigator CJ Duncan's extremely keen sense of smell and incredible strength are a definite advantage in her line of work; abilities her mother has never discussed but CJ assumes she's inherited from her unknown father. Yet for the last six months unsettling visions of a wolf have plagued CJ; inhibiting her ability to do her job. Determined to stop these visions, she travels to Seattle and encounters a recognisable scent; immediately realising the young man she has encountered can only be her half-brother. Determined to follow up any clue that could lead to her mysterious father and hopefully halt her visions, CJ breaks into Trey Nolan's office; the man who spirited her half-brother away before she could talk to him. Encountering Trey in his office; CJ may utilise her own formidable and highly unusual talents (which include the ability to detect a lie), yet she remains sceptical of Trey's secret werewolf society and forgotten magic explanations until he transforms in front of her.

Werewolf Trey Nolan walks a dangerous path. Although unhappy and in complete disagreement with alpha male Lazlo's plan to interbreed werewolves in order to re-establish their waning powers; his own lack of strength and smell leave him incapable of a successful challenge against the pack leader. The scientific Lazlo believes the werewolves weakening abilities to be a question of genetics; but Trey feels the answers can be found in forgotten magical lore. For the past six months he has attempted to summon his missing powers with the aid of a magical amulet but believes he has failed until CJ Duncan walks into his life. Soon CJ is a reluctant participant in a supernatural political power struggle and in love with a werewolf who is risking his life for her and the survival of his pack. Trey in turn cannot imagine a future without CJ by his side; however to save his pack and gain his full abilities he has to betray the woman he loves.

HMR is an amazing debut paranormal romance from ML and I'll certainly be keeping an eye out for future works by this talented newcomer. The world building and complex characters found in "Half Moon Rising" are truly absorbing and the weaving and highly original plot line is a brilliant showcase for an author that could easily rival the best sellers in this genre if future works parallel this one. CJ's journey into a paranormal world is action packed, suspense filled, romantic and devilishly hot in all the right places. I loved the fact that CJ was definitely the "brawn" in this book; breaking noses and ribs willy-nilly to get her answers whilst Trey "the brain" studies the magic of his werewolf heritage to find the solution to his own problems. There are unfortunately some important questions left unanswered at the end of this book which I sincerely hope ML intends to address in further works; namely the futures of Mario (CJ's half-brother and a very unique shape shifter) and Roz (CJ's witchy roommate).
