Product Description

Product Description

When the dying sun of Paradis dramatically begins its contraction phase, a two year stay by the Galacticans and the colonials on what appears to be the perfect planet for rebuilding their civilisation comes to an abrupt end - the planet's inhabitants are forced to make a hurried exit back into space. Discovering that several of their refurbished ships are incapable of deep-space travel, the fleet returns to Paradis for repairs - just in time for the sudden catastrophic destruction of the entire planet by the Cylons. Apollo, Tigh, and Athena make the painful decision to leave one-third of the fleet behind in order to save the rest.

The second of the Galactica trilogies comes to and end with the excellent novel, Destiny.
For fans of the original show we are treated to an epic story that fulfils on so many levels and for those fans of the new show you will find many similarities between this novel and the way the second season of the current series ended.
Continuing on from Paradis, the Colonials find they have to abandon the planet quickly when the planet becomes unstable and starts to break up.
The people have to cram onto remaining vessels, as some ships were dismantled to make parts of New Caprica City, and with limited time the Fleet soon finds itself in trouble. With only some of the ships capable of making a hyperlight jump out of the danger zone it means that 800 people will have to be left behind.
Once again, they find themselves on the brink of rebellion as a lottery is drawn on who will stay behind. The Quorum are up to their usual tricks but this time they are written with a little bit more depth and the addition of Sire Uri (from the original episodes Saga Of A Star World: Parts 1 - 3) is very welcome.
Revelations made at the end of Paradis are explored and only provide the reader with more questions about the Thirteenth Tribe.
The highlight of this novel is the interaction between Baltar and Apollo. With Baltar's nightmares increasing we discover that he is telepathically linked to the Cylon Imperious Leader! He states that the reason the Cylons have left them alone for so long is that they are fighting a civil war of the biological versus the technological. Whoever wins, a new breed of Cylons will emerge and they will certainly come for them. However, the revelation of what the Cylons intend to do with the Fleet is a chilling as any of Baltar's telepathic nightmares.
The novel sweeps you along to the dramatic conclusion as the Fleet jumps away and a handful of Colonials are left to face a Cylon armada but the sacrifice of a major character changes the destinies of all those left in the Paradis system.
The cliffhanger ending leaves you wanting more and confirms that the original series is still very much alive.
