3.0 out of 5 stars At last, 4 April 2008
At last a book that shows the other face of Ernesto. Not well argued or evidenced but he gets his 3 stars just for writing the book that needed to be written.

1.0 out of 5 stars Dire , 14 Jan 2009
By Milne "Ernesto Lynch" (Dumbarton, Scotland) - See all my reviews
Dear oh dear oh dear. This rubbish ought to be pulped. It is absolutely dire.

It wouldn't have been so bad if it had been written coherently but it is just another cliche ridden piece of maniacal nonsense from someone on the rabid right. No research, no evidence: just bald assertions with no FACTS. Right wingers should have learned by now that their rants can only be taken seriously if they are based on reality and not feelings, hunches and downright lies. So he doesn't like Che or left wingers generally. Fair enough but he must just learn to live with it. Simply making up garbage and spewing it out in hate filled sentences is not a substitute for proper evidence based research.

Please do not buy this drivel but if you see the author give him a hug. He didn't get any from his mommy...

Zero stars.

1.0 out of 5 stars Possibly the worst 'non-fiction' book I have ever read..., 10 Dec 2007
By John Frum (London, UK) - See all my reviews
I should start by pointing out that I am in no way a fan of the oppressive Cuban regime and look forward to the day when the Cuban people are freed from it. However, this book has to stand on its own merits separate from my own political views, and it still is truly terrible.

I was looking forward to reading this book. Unfortunately, Humberto Fontova certainly doesn't let evidence, the credibility of witnesses or even whether or not certain events really happened at all get in the way of his narrative. Out of the 256 pages, probably no more than 100 or so are actually about Che Guevara (who incidentally, Fontova seems to believe to be personally responsible for anything the Castro regime ever did that was wrong or questionable).

Of the rest of the book a large segment consists of Fontova ranting about types of people he doesn't like, or else painting right-wing parodies of their characters (democrats, university professors, people who aren't from the republican-right generally). The remaining space is filled with rants against film and music stars who at some point have worn pieces of Che iconography. I bought this awful waste of paper to read an alternative perspective on an historical figure, not diatribes against people like Angelina Jolie and Johnny Depp, who I have no interest in reading about at all.

I wish this book had a saving grace of some form, but it is just a very poorly-written, humourless, deliberate fabrication of history. Probably worse than David Irving after he went a bit mad.

This is a poorly written book, and one that fails in any genuine way to engage with its (supposed) subject matter. Read more

Was the publisher drunk when deciding to publish this drivel? Provocative cover gets the interest going but save your money, this is dreadful writing and poor history.
