5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Resource!!, 26 Feb 2008
By K. RIAZ "ThunderCat" (London) - See all my reviews

This book is an excellent collection of recipes and practical information for those serious about their training and making sure they are getting the right nutrition.

Gregg has some sound advice and if you're like me not knowing how to approach the diet in a way that will complement your training and just taking protein shakes, this book is invaluable as it gives some simple and clear advice and the recipes are very easy and taste great!!

The starting point was keeping a food log/diary and seeing how much usless calories I was consuiming and then replacing these meals with ones from Muscle Chow. Also with the food diary method I tried out carb cycling... The result? I have noticed that I am training harder and for longer and the protein shakes supplement my diet as opposed to being meals in themselves.

Great book

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Book - For American Readers, 17 May 2009

This book is packed with fantastic recipes. As a fussy eater I usually struggle to find more than 4 or 5 recipes in any recipe book that I would be able to eat (and even then, often with adaption). Given that this book hits a very specific type of diet and aims to keep food healthy, I was expecting to find ever fewer recipes I could use.

On first inpsection I'd say I've found 10-12 I could use. As I say, I am a VERY fussy eater so the majority of readers would find even more use from the book.

My only criticism is that this book is written by an American and aimed very much as a US market. The language and spelling is in Americanese (i.e.: not English)....although you can work out what the guy means. The ingredients he refers to are often brand named items you'd struggle to find in the UK....but I guess you could work out what he is referring to and replace with a British alternative.

He also seems to cook virtually everything on a skillet. Not having a skillet I ventured out to find one and realised I couldn't get one for less than about £45. I purchased a griddle pan for £10 though and fingers crossed I will get roughly the same result.

All in all, not a bad book at all. I wouldn't let my criticisms put you off. I am s
