Product Description

Synopsis

The ubiquitous use of certain sacred numbers and ratios can be found throughout history, influencing everything from art and architecture to the development of religion and secret societies. In "Sacred Number and the Origins Of Civilization", Richard Heath reveals the origins, widespread influences and deeper meaning of these synchronous numerical occurrences and how they were left within our planetary environment during the creation of the earth, the moon and our solar system. Exploring astronomy, harmony, geomancy, sacred centres and myth, Heath reveals the secret use of sacred number knowledge in the building of Gothic cathedrals and the important influence of sacred numbers in the founding of modern Western culture. He explains the role secret societies play as a repository for this numerical information and how those who attempt to decode its meaning without understanding the planetary origins of this knowledge are left with contradictory, cryptic and, often, deceptive information.

By examining prehistoric and monumental cultures through the Dark Ages and later recorded history, "Sacred Number and the Origins Of Civilization" provides a key to understanding the true role and meaning of number.

3.0 out of 5 stars numbers and their underlying principles, 23 Sep 2009

(TOP 1000 REVIEWER)
The author sees numbers as a "set of eternal archetypes" and explains that this book is an overview of the ongoing work of several people. Heath shows how geometry is the underlying principle of earth and the heavens. He demonstrates how certain groups in history had knowledge of the power and complexity of numbers and incorporated this into their architecture and symbolism.

I had expected to be fascinated by this book and indeed many interesting areas are covered, including the usual ancient monuments like pyramids, stone circles, and medieval cathedrals; old calendars and the origins of our measurements today; various classical myths; map triangulations taking into account some of the oldest cities in received history; etc.

The author offers many concepts and different interpretations of the past but they are not truly radical. Also, as it felt almost like a higher level schoolbook (without any emotional tone to it), I found the book somewhat lacklustre.
