4.0 out of 5 stars If you're a Monkees fan, you'll need this, 13 Nov 2009

(REAL NAME)
Comprehensive and thoroughly researched, this book is just a must-have for people who like the music of the Monkees.

[The comments elsewhere about the confusion of tenses does not represent any error on the part of the author - it is just a journalistic style. When he writes, in a May 1967 section, "The Monkees will re-record this track in November 1967", I would write, "The Monkees went on to re-record this track in November 1967". His style is not a lack of command of English or the facts, only a slightly annoying Americanism.]

The photographs are good, and the layout is merely acceptable.

If this book is The Monkees version of Lewisohn's Beatles book, now we urgently need a Monkees version of Ian MacDonald's Beatles book ("Revolution in the Head") which focuses on the songs - how they are recorded, what they are about, who wrote them, their place in history, etc. I would recommend Sandoval for the job.
