Product Description

Product Description

Steven Harrison's first book remains his bestselling one. Sentient is reissuing it in this tenth anniversary edition, with a new cover. "Doing Nothing" presents Harrison's radical understanding of the nature of life as dynamic and energetic. His transforming words have helped many spiritual seekers clearly comprehend the false nature of the search.

From the Publisher

writes about Doing Nothing...
What do you do after you've tried everything to find enlightenment? "You are already there," writes Steven Harrison. "Do nothing. Nothing is a surprisingly active place. It is there that we discover who and what we are."

Doing Nothing is for spiritually interested readers who have found themselves avidly following practices that have not fundamentally changed their lives: new therapies, ancient meditations, exotic religions. For twenty-five years, Harrison studied the world's philosophies, seeking out mystics, seers, and magicians all over the world. Then he discovered that "the very grasping for an answer that relieved me of the burden of feeling was the problem. Without the grasping of the seeker, the nature of the problem fundamentallychanges."

A regional bestseller when originally published by a small press, Doing Nothing is a spiritual tour de force. It explores how the path to happiness and the truths of life lies in the simple act of stopping the search: challenging readers to deconstruct their beliefs in the "myth of enlightenment" and in process-oriented spiritual systems. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

5.0 out of 5 stars not for everyone..., 18 Jun 2006
This book is not for everyone! A funny way to begin a 5 star review you may think. But the sad fact is that people want a guide, a "how to", they want a goal of enlightenment to steer towards. What harrison delivers is the truth instead. There are no ten step plans here, just the unashamed truth that sooner or later the spiritual search must end and you have to step into this moment "as it is" understanding that you know nothing and then the world will simply arise.

5.0 out of 5 stars A fundamental work in par with spirtual books of any time, 25 Aug 1999
By A Customer
Never since J Krishnamurty have I come across a book so revolutionary in its content. It is indeed a book of mutation, this time on our consciousness. Of course, Steve Harrison's words are sometimes to be read again and again for the reader has to do his work like Feynman's lectures on Physics.

5.0 out of 5 stars mind blowing, 29 Feb 2004

(REAL NAME)
It was hard to think of a title for this review as my "mind" is still reeling having just finished this book. I would thoroughly recommend it. I found it deeply moving and cried in parts. I am very involved in the person-centred movement and this book really spoke to me and echoed many of my feelings about life. Do read it!
